Mike Meeks is a 1983 graduate of Lubbock Coronado High School where he was a standout athlete in football and track. He was awarded a football scholarship to Eastern New Mexico University where he played in the defensive backfield for four years, earning All-Conference and All-Academic honors during his time there. Meeks stayed on to become a member of the ENMU coaching staff as a graduate assistant. Meeks began his public teaching and coaching career in El Paso, helping to lead the Socorro Bulldogs to their first ever playoff berth. He then became the defensive coordinator in Fort Stockton, Texas. From there, Meeks reconnected with his high school coach, John Parchman, at Midland Lee for 11 years. The Rebels went on to win three state championships and a national championship from 1998-2000. Mike returned home to Lubbock in 2006 to coach the defensive backfield and eventually become the defensive coordinator for the Mustangs as well as head track coach. Mike’s career in athletic administration began in 2013 when he was named an Assistant Athletic Director for Lubbock ISD. He was named Executive Director of Athletics in 2016, a role he currently holds. Mike also serves as the Region 1 UIL meet director for track and field and cross country. Mike was awarded the THSADA Region 1 Athletic Administrator of the Year in 2017 and has served on the THSADA Board of Directors and the THSCA Region 1 Atheletic Director Advisory Committee and Urban ISD Advisory Committee. Meeks’s impact and service to student-athletes and coaches is far-reaching. Mike has been married to his wife Laurie for 34 years. They have two children. Kyle lives in Golden, CO and is in the energy industry with DCP Midstream. Kayci and husband Cameron Cohen live in San Marcos, TX where Kayci works for the THSCA.
